As a result of merging the English Early Years Foundation Stage and the Chinese Curriculum (from three to six years) guidelines, we will have an Huili Early Years curriculum and framework for teaching and learning. Our educational programmes will be shaped by seven areas of learning and development and each area will have a set of age-appropriate learning outcomes that we will monitor through observational assessments. Your child`s achievements and interests will be documented in a Learning Story throughout the year and shared with pupils and parents.

Strengthened by a shared understanding of the bicultural Huili ethos, teachers, teaching assistants and early years assistants will share responsibility for each child’s learning and promote all areas of development in both languages. By hearing and then applying new vocabulary in play-based situations, children will acquire a second language quickly and with confidence, embracing both cultures as they learn.

We will provide caring and inspiring learning spaces built on positive relationships and developing the whole child emotionally, socially, physically and academically. Layouts will be designed to encourage pupils to make connections in their learning. By using a wide range of open ended materials, teachers will reveal their existing knowledge plus inspire them to think creatively, learn new skills and collaborate with others.

Children learn more between birth and the age of five than at any other time in their lives. Ideas and attitudes formed at this stage will have a profound effect on how they learn in the future. Our partnerships with parents are therefore of paramount importance. Your knowledge of their interests, fascinations and concerns are the foundations for the learning opportunities we promote. We believe that education is a journey to be shared and that only through collaboration and supporting each other can each child enjoy a comprehensive learning experience.
