The NEC Winners

With the conclusion of the 2024 National Economics Challenge we have exciting news to share of our students’ successes. The Grade 10 students at Huili School Nantong really left their mark on the competition, achieving excellent results both individually and as a team! They have won Regional Top Scoring Team Award in Macroeconomics, Regional Top Scoring Team Award in Microeconomics, National Top Scoring Individual Silver Award, Regional Top Scoring Team Award in Macroeconomics, Regional Individual Distinction Award in Macroeconomics and Top Rookie Individual Award.

The National Economics Challenge (NEC) is the United States nation ’s most prestigious high school economics competition. Each year, over 10,500 pupils across the U.S. participate in the com.

Economics has only been taught at Huili School Nantong since September 2023, and the Economics teacher, Sean Huang, shared how this hasn’t stopped our pupils succeeding: "By using a spiral curriculum, we helped pupils understand the whole course in just three months after the start of the school year. First, we built the framework, then added details, so as to ensure that all pupils are on the same track and do not lose their direction.”

The subject of Economics combines social concern with quantitative data analysis. It is both a solid hard science and requires soft skills. Economics is the only subject among the four major subjects that requires mid-length essays, challenging pupils' writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Through the study of economics, pupils master basic economic theories and methods, understand economic phenomena and laws, can analyze and solve practical problems, and possess critical thinking and innovative spirit, able to think independently and propose new perspectives and solutions.
