With the release of “The Wandering Earth II” and the start of the “The three-body problem” TV series this year, the sci-fi craze has swept the country once again. The hard science fiction, heavy industrial aesthetics presented in these movies and films have made the hearts of countless people soar. From science fiction back to science, the fantasy in the film is still far away from us, but all of it, however unbelievable, is an extension of existing technology, a reflection of human aspirations for science.

For mankind, science does not only bring material progress, but is even more valuable for its spirit. Science allows us to analyse and summarise the essential properties, intrinsic laws and interrelationships of objective things. It urges us to keep learning and reflecting; it helps us to keep improving our ability to inquire and practice, and to move forward with determination in our search for truth.
At Hiba Academy Nantong, the fascination of science is evident everywhere, from the theme lessons to the Science lessons, and we hope to help inspire and motivate Hiba pupils to increase their love of science. Just yesterday we had a mysteriously cool science day! A morning lecture on quantum mechanics by Mr Li kicked off a day full of technology for the pupils.
The theme of the Science Day was "Connection". Science teacher Mr Chang designed a variety of fun activities for pupils in all years to learn and understand the importance of 'connections' from everyday objects, human tissue structure and mechanics.
Ping Pong Ball Pickup Challenge
Pupils worked with each other to build a device that would pick up a ping pong ball from a distance and return it to the starting line. The further away the ball is, the fewer materials used to build the device.
Extract DNA
How is DNA extracted? How is its structure isolated and preserved? The pupils used a variety of materials in Mr Chang's lab to demonstrate its stranded structure.
Nylon Rope Trick
How is a pair of beautiful stockings produced? What magical chemical action can turn a solution into a nylon rope?
Build a Helping Hand and Catapult Challenge
Whether it was building a catapult used by the ancients or testing a helping hand that brought together modern technology. Both were exciting challenges in the eyes of the pupils.
After a day of experiencing a wide range of science activities, the day was rounded off by a fierce knowledge competition.
Through this Science Day, we believe that pupils will not only learn about the uniqueness of the subject of science, but also realise that it is present in all corners of our lives. In the future, we will continue to organise a variety of activities to enrich pupils' academic experience, help them fall in love with science through fun activities, stimulate their interest in inquiry, and explore new ways of thinking and learning in a deep and comprehensive way.
