Why should one become a lifelong learner?
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” — Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi teaches us to seek knowledge relentlessly. Lifelong Learning can be formal or informal, and takes place throughout an individual's life. It allows you to hone your skill set so you can be an asset to your society for years to come.
This is also the belief at Hiba Nantong for our whole community – pupils, teachers, staff and parents. It is exemplified through daily encouragement and promotion to build the love for learning for our pupils; ongoing trainings for teachers; and various workshops for parents.
The highlights of them all has to be the ‘Back to School Day’ for our parents!
Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers! Hiba Academy Nantong understands the vital role parents play in education. Workshops designed for parents are rich in content, including English Club, Chinese Club, Positive Parenting, Psychological support, Holistic Education and many more. Through these activities, parents not only gain insight into the school's educational philosophy and teaching methods but also learn how to better support their children's growth and learning in a home environment.
The "Back to School Day" allows parents to be with their children in a normal school day, experience the their school life firsthand. In a recent "Back to School" day for Grade 8, during a drama class, the teacher invited parents to join their children to follow movements from a video. Parents dressed in formal attire with serious expressions, found themselves transformed into dancers amidst their children's laughter. They confessed that through this class, not only did they realize the importance of expressing emotions through body movements, butalso the feeling of relaxation and freedom that performing art class brings.
"Back to SchoolDay” allows parents to appreciate the importance of being a lifelong learner and learning happens everywhere, not only at school. Pupils and their parents will work together to continue exploring the joys of learning, growing, and progressing together. Be You. Be a Lifelong Learner.
