Huili School Nantong Book Week Review

Reading helps us not only to extend our perspectives and understand the world without ever leaving our homes. The spiritual jewels of life are the books we read, which increases our intelligence, help us change our habits.

Huili School Nantong has always been dedicated to assisting children in cultivating a love of reading. We know that reading will benefit our pupils in a number of ways, including broadening their knowledge and encouraging them to take a more honest look at themselves and the world around them. Reading builds the groundwork for strong literacy and language, as well as personal, social, and emotional development. To promote reading at the school, we host a variety of book-related events throughout the year. This week we held our first “Book Week” on campus.

Teachers gave “Get caught reading” tickets to pupils who are being caught reading outside their class hours. We had a raffle during Assembly and two young readers received awards.

Pupils, teachers, and non-academic staff had the opportunity to read a book, a chapter, or a story to a class. The inclusion of these "Mystery Readers” in the classroom added an element of surprise and fun.

We organised a three-day Book Fair for pupils during Book Week. Everyone easily explored the books thanks to the fair's convenient location in the library. A wide selection of books on many subjects were available in both English and Chinese. Every child found a book on their "wish list".

On 4th November, the entire school participated in "Book character dress-up day”. The campus was populated by teachers and pupils who were costumed as various characters straight out of a book. A beautiful visual feast of art was produced as a result of the pupils' unbridled imagination and unmatched ingenuity.

Book Week involves more than just reading books. To introduce the realm of fairy tales from books to classrooms and making stories come to life, doors of each classroom were adorned by pupils and teachers using various themes from books and stories. 

Pupils' opinions on literature were incorporated into a competition to design the best bookmarks. Pupils were able to portray their interaction with the author's thoughts through vibrant colours by using their brushes to visualize what they were thinking. An actual bookmark featuring the winning submission will be produced and circulated throughout the library for the following year.

A great book is similar to a voyage for the body and mind. In a sea of books, thoughts and insights abound. Through a variety of enjoyable reading activities over the course of the previous week, we have helped our pupils develop a love of reading. In the future, we hope that our pupils' lives will be filled with a steady supply of intrigue and energy thanks to these positive reading habits.
