Summer Camp Courses Introduction

Last month we brought the good news of the first summer camp at Huili School Nantong and invited Mr Eelco van Kuilenburg, the Academy Program Manager, to the Huili Talk streaming to give viewers a detailed introduction to the camp.

To increase camper interest and participation and enhance their learning outcomes and experience, we have designed a wide range of courses and activities that consider age, interests, and abilities, which we are sure the children will love.

When:Residential, each day will be from 08:30 – 21:00

 

Camp 1:

Monday, 3rd July to Friday, 14th July (including the weekend) 

 

Camp 2:

Monday 31st July to Friday 11th August (including the weekend)

 

Age:Grades 1 – 8 (Ages 6 - 14)

In Lego robotics, campers will learn how to program large and small motors, as well as light, push, and motion sensors. They will work together to create a Lego vehicle that can move around an obstacle course and problem-solve their way through several challenges. This will develop their computational thinking and problem-solving skills, perfect for making campers better programmers.

The IPC International Primary Curriculum English is an English course that combines multidisciplinary knowledge. The International Primary Curriculum focuses on cultivating children's academic knowledge, personal abilities, and international thinking, while also fostering children's love and enjoyment of learning, stimulating their curiosity, and equipping them with the qualities to become global citizens. IPC courses are taught in the form of thematic units. Each unit, although independent, integrates many subjects such as history, science, geography, physical education, and the arts.

As we all can agree, science is one of the most dynamic and exciting subjects. However much we study or do, there is always so much more to explore. During this camp, the children will experiment and observe the emission of colours in fireworks, the continuous colour change in solutions, solve crimes using analytical chemistry, identify compounds using chromatography, build the tallest tower using straws and marshmallows, make their own soap, and many more exciting activities.

Through these activities, we aim to develop essential skills like critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication that are necessary for campers to learn and succeed in school and beyond.

Swimming is an essential activity in the hot summer. At Huili School Nantong, the 25m 8-lane pool caters to professional events. We hope that our campers not only learn the skill of swimming but, more importantly, learn the spirit of positivity and never giving up when playing sports. We hope to instil in them the desire to constantly challenge their limits, surpass their abilities and performance, and pursue higher achievements and honours.

Campers will not only learn about music theory, composition, and music appreciation, but they will also be able to showcase their singing voice in the choir and their talent in the ensemble. Our experienced instructors will provide expert guidance and inspiration, while our fun and engaging curriculum is designed to foster a love for music and develop valuable skills in performance, composition, and more. Whether a beginner or an experienced musician, our summer music program is the perfect place to learn, grow, and have fun this summer.

Through topics relevant to the campers, such as "Should zoos be banned" and "Should school uniforms be abolished," teachers will guide campers in understanding the techniques and rules of formal debate, practising their presentation skills, expanding their vocabulary, and increasing their confidence when speaking in public. Campers will learn how to work independently on tasks, how to work better as a team, and how to list the elements of their views and persuade others to accept them. They will also learn how to question and ask questions - two skills that will enhance their learning.

Campers will learn the essential skills every actor needs to have in their toolkit, encompassing a range of aspects including stage, acting techniques, voice, movement, text analysis, and rehearsal practice. Campers will be introduced to different artists and artworks and take up the challenge of recreating these artworks. Campers will have a mini presentation where they get to showcase some of the skills and techniques, they have learned by doing excerpts of monologues, plays, and poetry.

Each group will be assigned a different route to complete the scavenger hunt, and the team that takes the least amount of time to complete all the challenges will win the scavenger hunt and be awarded a prize at the summer camp assembly. It will be a fun and rewarding experience for all campers as they develop a sense of teamwork and a spirit of adventure and exploration through exciting treasure hunts.

On the afternoon of the last day of camp, parents can gather on the beautiful campus of Huili School Nantong to celebrate the learning and achievements of the campers in the Theatre and enjoy drama and choral performances. Teachers will introduce their course and show what the children did in class, such as artwork they completed, etc.

The above descriptions are only part of the camp's enrichment courses. We hope that all campers will gain knowledge and grow and have fun this summer through this exciting camp.
