This week, our country celebrated its 74th anniversary. To promote patriotism and cultivate a sense of national honour and pride among pupils, all teachers and pupils gathered on Monday to hold a flag-raising ceremony and participate in a competition to celebrate National Day.

At the flag-raising ceremony, Ms Suisui Yu, the principal of Huili School Nantong, delivered a speech and encouraged pupils to become qualified global citizens through hard work, so that they can contribute to society and become a bridge between China and the world. She shared with the whole school: " China has a long history, magnificent landscapes, and a brilliant cultural heritage. As young pupils, you are inheritors of Chinese civilization and the hope of China. Each of you has the historical mission of making our country stronger and more prosperous. Through studying at Huili School Nantong, we hope that every pupil can integrate into the wave of globalization and contribute to introducing China better to the world."

After the flag-raising ceremony, the entire school participated in a special academic quiz competition. Each house sent representatives of different ages to participate in the quiz. The questions covered many aspects of Chinese history, geography, science, art, and so on, aiming to enhance the school's understanding and knowledge of Chinese culture. Through the competition, pupils' interest and enthusiasm for learning were stimulated, and their teamwork and thinking abilities were cultivated. The atmosphere on-site was very lively.

This knowledge quiz is just a microcosm of pupils' daily learning of Chinese history and culture at Huili Nantong. The inheritance and development of Chinese culture at the school are not limited to the study of ancient poetry in Chinese language class or project-based and inquiry-based learning in Chinese Social Studies. Instead, it permeates every aspect of pupils' daily lives.

This year's Asian Games allowed the world to witness China's amazing cultural and artistic achievements. Similarly, in the co-curricular activity programme at Huili School Nantong, Calligraphy, Guqin, Chinese dance, Kung fu, and other programs have already planted cultural seeds in the hearts of pupils. As Chinese Social Studies teacher, Ms Nade Li, said "We believe that through the study and inheritance of these traditional cultures, pupils can better understand and recognize Chinese culture. Traditional culture, through the inheritance and development by pupils, will certainly shine brighter in the new era!"

From the weekly flag-raising ceremony to the annual Young Pioneers induction ceremony, the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, and even the unique dishes served during the 24 solar terms in the cafeteria, patriotism education, as well as the cultivation of national honour, cultural confidence, and ethnic pride, has been deeply rooted in the hearts of every pupil through various subtle forms. We encourage pupils to explore and achieve their true selves, identify, and deeply cultivate cultural confidence, and shape and change the future world. We hope that in the future, our pupils can undertake the responsibility of building a better China and even the world, just as Ms Suisui Yu has envisioned.
