Staff Professional Development Day

On 2nd January, we held a Professional Development Day for all staff. The event aimed to provide a platform for communication and sharing of teaching experiences and methods, as well as to enhance professional skills through various workshops with different themes. The event was conducted in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, and cutting-edge teaching concepts and methods were introduced to stimulate innovative thinking and teaching inspiration.

 

"We don't want the Staff Professional Development Day to be just a checklist for everyone to tick off tasks", said Simon Kenworthy, the Master of Huili School Nantong. "We need to provide a happy, positive, and open environment for teachers to explore and develop their talents. This, in turn, will provide a better educational service for for our pupils with creativity and enthusiasm."

Kirsty Anderson, Education Consultant from Huili’s Institute of Education, shared her topic " Strategies to support the promotion of Positive Behaviour", officially kicking-off the day. She sharedstrategies and methods to support positive behaviour in the school, including building good teacher-pupil relationships, modified use of language and methods to attract further pupil participation.

During the one-day event, the workshops attended by staff covered a wide range of topics, including developing oral skills, the Oxford phonics teaching method (RWI course), drama in education, boosting teacher efficacy in IT, mindfulness practice, augmented reality technology, and strategies to support ADHD. The event provided teachers with comprehensive and diverse teaching tools and perspectives, as well as rich opportunities for interaction and communication, promoting their professional development and better meeting the learning needs of pupils.
