At Nantong Huili School, sport is an important part of Huili's holistic education. Sport has a positive impact on our pupils' physical and mental well-being. Every pupil is encouraged to participate in as many sports and physical activities as they can in the wide range of sports that the school offers, with the goal of maximising the athletic potential of Huili pupils. We hope that all pupils will learn the skills through the PE curriculum to reach their full potential and become active and fulfilled individuals.

The PE curriculum at Nantong School Huili is taught bilingually. English language learners’ vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation develop faster when there are opportunities for interaction in the classroom using the language being learned. Teachers support pupils in using English to communicate with one another and express themselves, in addition to teaching them a variety of sports-related vocabulary. "How do you feel about that?" "How do you need your team mates to assist you?" "Would it be better if we threw the ball in this direction?"

With fundamental skills as a starting point and a progressive growth in accordance with the development of pupils' physical capacities, the content of PE curriculum is even more dependent on the laws of pupils' physical and mental development. The curriculum is purposefully broad in order to help every pupil get the most out of it, so not only do we explore specialist sports and specific paired skills like catching and throwing, kicking and receiving, etc, but this range of activities also really helps build gross and fine motor skills as well as specific physical attributes like strength, balance, endurance, coordination and more.

Pupils have weekly PE lessons and participate in a wide range of sports such as swimming, team sports, dance, and fitness each term. Pupils participate in a range of enjoyable activities on the playground every Tuesday during the morning exercise period. Thursday mornings are filled with dynamic morning dances, where every pupil is a natural dancer under the guidance of their teachers!

In addition to the regular PE curriculum, the CCA (co-curricular activity) programme provides a wide range of after-school activities for pupils. They can take part in additional sports and they can get expert instruction to develop or expand their sporting ability. Basketball, gymnastics, tag rugby, swimming, tennis, and other sports are available. The teachers responsible for the CCA courses are partly from our school and partly external teachers or coaches who also have professional skills and teaching practice. The course also uses a bilingual immersion model to help pupils improve their bilingual language skills.

The unique house system at Huili School Nantong also gives pupils the opportunity to explore more sport. During the recent FIFA World Cup, an exciting school football competition was also held between our four houses of Hui, Xian, Li and De. During the competition, the pupils were not only familiarised with various knowledge about football, but also greatly promoted their sense of unity and teamwork.

Our school has great sporting facilities including our own 25 metre swimming pool, all weather running track, basketball courts and plenty of field/pitch space. Indoors, we have dance studios and a double-size sports hall. We have brand new sports equipment covering many sports, ensuring our children have the highest quality resources to ensure their success.

Sport provides pupils with the opportunity to learn and understand Huili's values. Through the sporting activities, they experience trust, learn how to collaborate, and cultivate empathy. We also talk to our pupils about health, so that they understand the importance of not only being active but also maintaining a healthy and sensible diet.

We hope that through sporting activities pupils will develop resilience, develop a correct outlook on life and values, face challenges courageously, and develop their sporting skills in all aspects.
