SPRING FESTIVAL

二零二三·兔年春节

The Year of the Rabbit will soon be with us!

On the occasion of the return of spring and the renewal of all things,

Huili School Nantong's founding pupils and families came together to welcome the beginning of the Chinese New Year.

新春演出

Performance

At 8.30am, the first Huili School Nantong Chinese New Year performance started with a lion dance in the Theatre. In the Chinese Dancing, the pupils danced beautifully as if they had brought us back to the town of Jiangnan. The piano and clarinet ensemble from Jessie and Nicole took us on another journey into the arts. The whole theatre was filled with the sound of children's voices as they presented "The rhythm of Chinese Poem" by all Grade 1 and 2 pupils.

The stage was lit up with stars, showing the unique style of Huili pupils. Our holistic education helps cultivate pupils' artistic literacy and aesthetic skills, planting a seed of art in the hearts of our children, which we nurture with great care to add a different dimension to their life’s path.

Temple Fair

In addition to the Chinese New Year performance, a temple fair filled with the charm of traditional Chinese culture was held in the sports hall. Sugar painting, moulding clay figures, paper cutting and The Sugar Figure Blowing, etc were all on offer and led to a wide range of fun activities to dazzle the senses. The red window flowers reflect the festive atmosphere, and the candy canes are mixed with joy and laughter sweet to the heart. By participating in these amazing activities, pupils got a real taste of traditional Chinese folk culture.

While experiencing the folklore, pupils were also able to become little stall holders. Theyorganised a variety of activity stalls and invited all Huili community members to join in the fun and celebrate the Chinese New Year. This is what they offered:

As an important part of the Huili community, the Friends of Huili (FoH) made a significant contribution to the event. They brought a non-traditional item, Traditional cake of the Tang dynasty to the pupils. The Traditional cakes of the Tang dynasty, which are small and varied, originate from the Sui and Tang dynasties and are made from a variety of starches developed from cereals, together with the fruits of the four seasons, each of which implies the seasonal changes of the earth and nature. For this Chinese New Year, the members of FoH would like to send sweetness and goodness to everyone with these little treats that carry a good meaning.

The first Huili School Nantong Chinese New Year Temple Fair came to an end with laughter and joy. Our founding pupils actively participated in the fair, working together as a team and giving full play to their creativity, reflecting the 'Inspired' and 'Individual' identity of Huili. As a bilingual and bicultural school, we focus on the development of a global perspective for our pupils as well as placing great emphasis on the aesthetic cultivation of traditional culture to help build a sense of cultural identity and belonging. Chinese New Year Temple Fair provided a wealth of learning opportunities for Huili pupils, and we would like to pass on the best New Year wishes to everyone.
