At Huili School Nantong we value the role of families as part of the educational journey of each individual. Recent national findings from the Blue Book on National Depression 2022, led by People's Daily, states that the prevalence of depression among teenagers is 15%-20%. The "Special Service Plan for Exploring Depression Prevention and Treatment" released by the National Health Commission in 2020 lists adolescents as one of the four key groups with a high incidence of depression. Therefore, more and more schools attach greater importance to the setting and arrangement of psychological courses, helping pupils better understand and manage their emotions.

In addition to schools, families are vital teachers for their children. The educational experiences of adults also lay the foundation for their children's mental health and can deeply influence future development. Recently, more parents want to learn how to better help their children on the psychological level. To support this, Huili School Nantong offered a Positive Parenting Workshop this semester. We have developed a course system based on personal growth and positive parenting, providing practical and effective support and advice for parents. The workshop is offered once per semester, with six sessions in total, held every other week. Each session is centred around a specific topic, combining theory and practise.

Our first round of workshops was a great success, with eleven family members completing the three-month cycle of meetings. Family members who signed up took time to reflect on themselves and worked hard to absorb knowledge and explore strategies. It is inspiring to see that they continue to learn, embrace challenges, and set a good example for their children.

During the workshop, we received a lot of positive feedback from parents:

The biggest thing I got out of this workshop is a better understanding of myself and my family of origin. I remember the first few assignments were about my own childhood and growth stories, which helped me understand that I should accept myself and love myself. I believe this is the best empowerment and I will be better able to understand my child and be there for her growth as a result.

Sara is very experienced and the workshop is very professional, easy to understand, and full of practical examples. There are both on-site exercises and book recommendations, which allow us to better understand, empathize, and experience theoretical knowledge.

Only by deeply analysing oneself and understanding our true psychological state can one find a breakthrough in our own growth and make the right efforts to raise our children correctly. Although this process may be painful, helpless, and stressful, only by bravely overcoming oneself can there be a qualitative breakthrough.

The parents who participated in the course received a certificate of completion.

We welcome parents and friends who are ready to join the workshop, which is expected to start in October 2023, so watch out for the Week Ahead in September.

At Huili School Nantong, we regard family as important educational partners, and every member of the family is an important member of the Huili community. In the future, we will continue to organize various workshops and lectures to help parents better guide and support their children's learning and play a role in family education. Through close co-operation between home and school, we will work together to support children in their growth and development.
